Specific applications are configured using the Catalyst Control Center software. If the Switchable Graphics screen allows application level settings, your computer has Dynamic Mode switchable graphics. Dynamic Mode enables the computer to use both the integrated and discrete graphics processors without restarting or resetting the display. All applications use the selected GPU. If the Switchable Graphics screen allows selecting either the high-performance or power-saving GPU, your computer has Fixed Mode switchable graphics. See the Changing Fixed Mode switchable graphics default settings section of this document for more information on accessing the Catalyst Control Center software.

Using Dynamic Mode switchable graphics with default settings By default, a computer with Dynamic Mode switchable graphics uses the integrated, or power-saving, GPU for most applications. The computer will automatically switch to the discrete, or high-performance, GPU when an application requires more performance.

Customers can configure which applications require the high-performance GPU by selecting the application in the Catalyst Control Center software. When an application is configured to use the high-performance GPU, the computer switches graphics solutions when the application is started or closed. If you do not have this software, or if you previously uninstalled it, see Obtaining Software and Drivers to learn how get the latest version. To maximize the energy efficiency or if you typically use programs that have lower graphical requirements such as word processing or spreadsheet programs , you do not need to make any changes to the settings in the Catalyst Control Center software.

The computer uses the power-saving GPU by default for most applications. You can still run high-performance programs, videos, and games in default mode but you are likely to notice lower frame rates, dropped frames, and choppy animations and transitions.

Applications that have higher graphical requirements such as 3D video games , work better using the high-performance GPU.

Graphics intensive software, videos, and games run at their optimum settings using the high-performance GPU. The high-performance GPU generates a noticeable amount of heat while running graphics intensive software and, to keep the computer from overheating, the fan noise increases with increased fan use. To change the default switchable graphics settings in the Catalyst Control Center software, follow the steps below.

Select a Recent Application and click Not Assigned unless this has been altered before. Then choose either High performance, Power saving, or Based on power source. The OpenGL applications will work using the integrated, or power-saving, GPU, but performance levels may be lower than expected. Using Fixed Mode switchable graphics with default settings A computer with Fixed Mode switchable graphics default settings automatically prompts to switch between the high-performance and power-saving GPU when the power source changes.

If the power source changes during computer operation you disconnect the AC adapter , the computer automatically displays a prompt to confirm switching from the high-performance GPU to the power-saving GPU.

Unfortunately you will need to get the drivers installed to use a connection over HDMI - you may want to try the following, but be aware that this method, while it was successful on the notebook I was working on, may well not work for yours.

When installing the UnifL package by Leschat, there is an option that reads something like 'Enable Metro UI' which was not ticked by default - enter a tick against this option. Another cause of a 'blank screen' after installation can be Windows 8 developing a second 'phantom display'. This topic has been archived. Display Driver Uninstaller I found at that thread. It's pretty late but I noticed Catalyst Control Center was missing. Closer anyways. I'll post other findings for sure if I find any.

Well that's a no go since windows keeps up dating me to the new drivers. Well at least I got to play my game for like 10 minutes! Hope there's a fix on the horizon. This sucks! Same error with me. Intel Graphics HD Please microsoft I think windows update made the update with diferent drivers one update for amd and another to intel but that's is wrong for switchable graphics I tried also to install the drivers from the HP site made for windows 7, version but with Windows 10 it seems you may not choose yourself wich driver is the best for you and automaticly installs the newest version wich does not support switchable graphics.

Is there a way to turn off this automaticly driver updates? Or can you please make a driver that works? I had to go back to Windows 7 because of this dumb bug. The Windows 10 notification icon on Windows 7 sayd that my PC was ready for the upgrade to Windows 10 but it say nothing about not supporting HDMI-port or something not working so didn't expect a problem like this. More because its installing like it is an update trough Windows update. It worked for a while but Windows update automatically updates to newer graphics drivers which are set to dynamic switching and which are not meant for my PC.
